"Well, what's so surprising about that", you say: "people die and get eaten by worms every day! That's just the way things happen!" Well, not exactly! Now the eye-witness author here is Dr. Luke! In fact, he uses that word, "eye-witness", in the third verse of chapter 1 of his Gospel. It's a Greek medical term, "autoptai" from which we get "autopsy"; to medically view or witness (hence, "Examiner"). I say this merely to allay any suspicion of the reporter, in this case. Luke was well suited to acurately report any such biological phenomena with the precision one might expect from a trained physician!
But the word that's a real "grabber" is "immediately". This word occurs but 19 times in scripture (Grk="parachrema"; Strong's #3916; occurs 10-times in Luke, 7-times in Acts). The meaning is clearly seen in Acts 3:7 as meaning instantly - as in an immediate reaction.
Now let's turn to Ex 16:20: "...but some of them left of it ("manna") until the morning, and it bred worms and stank:...". And now let's turn to (Rev 10:6:) ("...that there should be time no longer"). "Now", you ask, "just what in the world do all of these things have in common?" T I M E, O P P O R T U N I T Y, L I M I T A T I O N !
We all have a limited time-allocation of opportunity. The Hebrew name "manna" means literally, "what IS it?"! Moses answers that question with, "This is that". He explains that this is the sustenance or "bread" from Heaven given for life on earth! Indeed, this was Angel's food! But it was only "good" (edible) for a certain limitation of time-on-earth!
Further, there was a direct connection with giving their Heavenly Father Glory (Sabbath)! This somewhat mysterious substance was only "stable" in the actual presence of God's Glory (in the Ark). We're told in Revelation that time (as we know it) will be disposed of - set aside. Physics will radically change, forever! What will happen to things as we know it?
Well, if we don't use this limited opportunity (time) to glorify God, what happened to Herod, (and all unused, wasted manna), will be the "fate" of ALL flesh! IS there a "time-warp" in scripture?
Well, time, space, matter, gravity, mass, light and any "other" created "thing" is, after all, just that - a "creature"! ALL creatures glorify their Creator! It is written, "Every knee shall bow, and tongue confess Jesus Christ is LORD!". Time warp? Just think of Christ as Alpha and Omega; then ponder the Cross; Predestination; The "Elect of God"; Resurrection!
Herod was a fool! And he died a fool's death! A fool is any creature without it's Creator! We were made to glorify God - by being with Him, and loving Him! But the time to receive and ingest His "manna" N O W !
