God Inhabits His Gifts. A simple statement; but what does it mean?
What does God DO? "Well", we might say, "God Creates according to His Nature, or Will". Yes, this is true, but in what manner [how?] does God Do what He Does [Create]? Well, He Does everything that He Does Personally; that is, it must come-from Him - from His SELF. Therefore, He Inhabits [is Present in] all that He Does. And all that He Creates is of/from His Own Nature; Mercy [Love]. God GIVES of/from HimSelf. He is Provider ["El Shaddai"].
God Calls His Gift "Manna" [Bread, or Food from Heaven]. Interestingly enough, this is a Hebrew word which translates-to-mean, "what IS it???".
Exod 16:15 (KJV) And when the children of Israel saw [it], they said one to another, It [is] manna <4478>: for they wist [knew] not what it [was]. And Moses said unto them, This [is] the bread <3899> which the LORD hath given you to eat.

[i.e., to RIPEN, as MATURE, as in FERTILE, as a SEED-IN-HARVEST].
So we see that Manna is God's Gift of Heavenly Food [Bread] which Produces a SuperNatural Inquiry of "What IS it?", or "What is it's PURPOSE?", or "For what is it INTENDED?", or "To what END has it Come to us from Above?". That is to say, "Why this Gift from God?".
God has a Reason-In-Mind [Purpose] for all that He Does [Gives]. His Purpose is His Intent; that is, according to His Will. Hence we see that all Creatures are "Given" for a Purpose [Plan] according to God's Will [End] for them. And, as God Gives [Sows His Seed{s}]... just so He Expects it to GROW and to BEAR FRUIT-IN-KIND {as Sown!}.
Gene 1:27 (KJV) So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
There ought to be a distinction made between these two words; "seed" & "grain". Do we eat "seeds"? No. We eat "grain". We plant seeds - we eat "grain" - right? God did not give man his own "seed" ["sperma"] to eat, but to plant! God knows that man needs to eat; indeed, He Addresses this very important "issue" as the very-next topic of Creation:
Gene 1:29 (KJV) And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat [food]. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for meat [food]: and it was so.
God Spells-out what man [& all Creatures] are to EAT, AFTER He Commands each Creature's fertility-nature. We were Made to Sow [procreate]; we need to eat. But eating is not our Purpose as Creatures, whereas "multiplying" [sowing our seed] IS a part of God's Plan [Intention] for us.
Understanding these different fuctions and the vital ["life/death"] role they "play" in the mortal Life-Gift of God's Purpose-in-Creation for any Creature is the Subject of Christ's Exhortation and Elevation of one Parable above all others as "KEY" to our understanding the Spiritual Answer to "Manna?", or, "What's the Purpose of God's Creation-Gift [mortality]?":
Mark 4:13 (KJV) And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? This Parable is the Parable of "sowing" [seed, not grain!].
But it is this relationship between "seed" as "fertility" ["sperma"] to be sown/grown/ripened/harvested... and "grain" as "Bread or Meat" to be "eaten"... and God's Purpose/Will/Intent/Plan-for each [respectively] that is the subject of this paper. And I intend to discuss this in two "words": "Ripened Manna", or "Ephratah Bethlehem".
Jesus Christ is God's Seed ["Sperma" in the Greek], yet He is also God's Manna ["Bread {Food} from Heaven"]. He tells us that we must EAT Him! Here is an Enigma [Parable, or "dark saying", or Mystery] indeed! But, like so many things of God, Mysteries are Intended for Revelation to "Babes" ONLY! - as it is Written:
Psal 8:2 (KJV) Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
Matt 11:25 (KJV) At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Matt 21:16 (KJV) And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? In other words... God Intends His Purpose to be Revealed only to Humble Simplicity - as with "Babes"!
But God Does not Sow for nothing... He Expects a "Return on His Investment"! Indeed, Jesus Makes it pretty clear that God is "Adamant" [Determined] in this matter of "Interest-Earned", or "Fruit-of-Harvest". In another Parable, Jesus Describes His Father as a "Hard Man":
Matt 25:24 (KJV) Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: The Moffatt translates "strawed" as "winnowed" ["harvested"].
God Makes this Statement regarding His Sowing:
Isai 55:11 (KJV) So shall my word [Seed] be that goeth forth [be Sown] out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it. So we see that God "Sows" His "Word" by His "Fiat", or Command - and that He Expects it to be Fruitful-in-Kind when He comes to Reap His Harvest.
We must remember that Eden was GOD'S Garden, not Adam's. Adam was God's Gardner, or [Vine] Steward, &/or Shepherd, but the Garden & all [He Planted] within it were God's! So it is to this day - but, as Adam spoiled God's Eden & Christ Came to Convert Adam's sin to God's Righteousness [Fruition]... so God's Eden must also be Converted ["Gethsemenied"], or Repented... and Re-Turned to God's Garden of CHOICE. In-Christ, by His Death-Resurrection, this God-Seed "fell to the ground..." "died", and Sprouted a whole New Creation!
John 12:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a [seed] corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Jesus was Born as a Child, a Babe - Simple, Humble. A very strange thing occured in the ninth month [apparently] of the Pregnancy of a Virgin in Nazareth... this Miracle Woman, Chosen by God for her "Seed" - "the Seed of the woman"-Gn 3:15: ...embarked on a 3-5 day [& night!] journey to an obscure, Southerly settlement named "Bethlehem Ephratah". There she gave Birth to God's Only "Begotten" ["Sown"!] Son! How odd. Why? Merely because it was Written long ago [Prophesied] of Him? No. Jesus Christ IS "Bethlehem Ephratah"! He Embodies & Personifies... that is, He Actually Manifests-the-Meaning of these two Hebrew Words!
This humble, little town is a very OLD settlement. It is as old as the Chosen City of God - even the Holy City of Peace herself, Jerusalem! Indeed, little Bethlehem sprang up as the "supply-depot", or "gathering-spot" ["trysting-place", or "sheep-fold"] of the shepherds. It was the "staging area" for the "gathering of the herds" from the grazing fields surrounding it for miles around. This was FEEDLOT of all Jerusalem! Hence the Name, "house [or place] of 'bread' [or food, or MEAT!]". But "Meat" [food] must be Served "in-Season", or it is not the Lord's Banquet.
Matt 24:45 (KJV) Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
So we find Jesus Exhorting Peter to Do even as He has Done:
John 21:15 (KJS) So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these [Are you Mature, Ripe, 'in-Season']? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed [provide-for] my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me [Are you Trained, Experienced, 'in-Season']? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed [lead, Shepherd] my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me [Are you Called/Sent, 'in-Season', Anointed/Empowered, Apostled, as under-Authority, an Ambassador]? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed [Tend, nourish & protect] my sheep [Flock].
All the more fitting that this "Babe", this "Manna from God", Came to DO & FINISH God's Will/Purpose/Plan, and to Reveal that Plan by His Own Life/Death/Resurrection... thus Answering that question, "What is it?", or "Why?", or "Manna???"].
John 4:34 (KJV) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will [as Chosen] of him that sent me, and to finish [bring unto Perfection, or Maturity] his work [as Sent].
This Seed-Child of God's Own Planting was Born of Humility in a stable [as would His lowest, meekest Creature] and "housed" in a "feeding-trough" ["manger"]. Any wonder, then, He should later Say we must EAT Him?; ...but only after He had been Slaughtered [as God's Paschal Lamb]?
Jesus Makes an incredible Word-Connection in a particular place which links the Meaning of Bethlehem & Ephratah [two Hebrew Words] to the linkage of two other Words [Greek], "Meno & Teleios":
Matt 10:[22] (KJV) ...he that endureth <5278> to the end <3778> shall be saved ["Harvested" as Planted].
The Purpose of FRUIT is to SOW the seed! We see this quite clearly in all of God's "Nature" [Creation]. But there is an old saying, "God didn't Make any little, green apples!"... just what does this imply? That God is not Pleased with immaturity! Why? Because only Maturity is FERTILE [can bear fruit-in-kind].
A seed carries within it the entire structure [from start to finish, beginning to end] of the Creature it CAN become [according to it's Creation-Intent, or Purpose, or Design]. That is, a Giant Redwood seed embodies all of the characteristics that are potential within it. However, just as with a plant which never matures unto fruit-bearing [Jesus Cursed such a tree which Bore not Fruit [as Designed] at His Approach!], so a seed which never "dies" to it's "seed-ness" to become a plant never fulfills it's Intended Purpose. So also with fruit. If fruit never ripen, neither do the seeds within. Nor is the fruit tempting to those creatures who might otherwise eat the fruit & distribute ["sow"] the seeds within. So we see the KEY to Fruition is MATURITY! That is, "Ripeness"!
Now take another look at the Meaning of the Word "Ephratah": it means "to ripen" or to "mature". Just as Jesus, the Christ, God's Messiah, God's Living Way-BACK to Him had to suffer & "endure unto the the end" to be "Harvested"... He had to Mature! How? By the things that He Learned by/thru Suffering!
Hebr 5:8 (KJV) Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
The "Bethlehem" [God's Manna] had to "Ephratah" [Ripen by Suffering to be "Made-PERFECT"] to "Become" the Author ["Alpha"] of Eternal Salvation ["Harvest/Omega"]". "RIPE MANNA". And He Is God's Answer to our "what is our Purpose, or the Reason for our Creation?"; "Manna?". Just as there is a Divine Connection between these two Excerpts of Scripture from two different Apostles:
John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave {GIFT} he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God {PURPOSE}.
Roma 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice {GIFT}, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove {PURPOSE} what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect [Mature, Fulfilled, Revealed, Intended, Ripe-in-Season], will of God. [As the Master, (Above) so [also-with] the pupil (below)!]
Jesus Christ is our Revelation of/from God, even as He Intended [Sowed/Planted] in the Garden of His Will-Choice [Pleasure] from the Beginning - in the Genesis! And, as it was Written, so God's Word-Seed Came ["in the fullness of time" = "in-Season"] and Lived/Died/, was Sown/Planted and was then Harvested/Given as Ripe, Mature, Plentiful, full of Life-Abundance. And those of us who Eat of THIS Fruit-of-Obedience [as contrasted with the "fruit" Adam "ate" in disobedience]... "in the day that we eat thereof"... we shall surely not die, but we shall surely have everlasting Life - and that "more abundantly" than Adam ever knew!
And how about us, then? Are we not Planted, as New Creatures-in-Christ, when Born from Above? Yes. Then should we not Grow, Nourish, Flourish, Mature, Ripen & be Harvested, full of Seed of like-kind... as Intended [Born of the Spirit]?? Yes, indeed! And will God be Pleased [His Will Honored] if we remain "green", immature, unpalatable, and un-Fruitful? No, He will not!
"Meno" means to "endure, remain, abide, continue, etc" [as in suffering, with patience]". "Teleios" is Greek for "maturity, perfection, fulfillment, fruition, etc]". Jesus uses these Greek Words repeatedly to Illustrate how we must "Follow" Him, that is, Do [SuperNaturally] even as He Began [an even "more", He Says!]. As He Suffered, so must we! As He Learned Obedience, so must we! As He was MADE "ripe" or "mature" for Harvesting, so must we as well.
Jesus Said that He was the Light of the World in one place [Jn 8:12], and that we were [are] in another [Mt 5:14]! Well, which is it? Both! But ONLY if/as we FOLLOW/OBEY even as He Followed & Obeyed His Heavenly Father! Only this Obedient Following of God's Spirit [Will] is the Truth, Light & Way of Salvation which Leads us to God's Jubilee [Harvest-tide].
Jesus never lost His Humble-Simplicity - His God-Dependency - His Child-Likeness! Neither should we! Indeed, in the 15th Chapter of the Gospel of John, our Lord Teaches us that this Simple, Humble God-Dependency is KEY to our Maturity. We must "MENO" to "TELEIO". And, in another place, Jesus tells us that we must become "Perfect" [RIPE, MATURE, FERTILE], even as our Heavenly Father is...! [Mt 5:48] And, should you think that this is merely my "spin" on Christ's Meaning of "Teleios" ["Perfect"], and that this is somehow foreign to Biblical Ideology, check out the full Meaning of the use of "Perfect" from the Hebrew in Jer 23:20.
But, as with everything else, only God Gives this SuperNatural Simple-Humility [Meekness]. And, as with all other Gifts of His, we find that it is His Very Own Spirit [Nature] within the Gift which Enables us to use/do according to His Creation-Intent [Will]. An examination/comparison of God's Spiritual Character with which He Inhabits His various Gifts & FRUIT might be helpful.
Gala 5:19 (KJV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Ephe 4:1 (KJV) I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Prov 6:16 (KJV) These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Phil 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
Ephe 2:10 (KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephe 2:22 (KJV) In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Isai 37:31 (KJV) And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
Matt 13:8 (KJV) But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Jame 5:18 (KJV) And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Deut 33:14 (KJV) And for the precious fruits [brought forth] by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,
Matt 21:34 (KJV) And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
Luke 13:8 (KJV) And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung [it]:
Acts 14:17 (KJV) Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
John 12:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Roma 7:4 (KJV) Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, [even] to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
John 15:1 (KJV) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Roma 6:13 (KJV) Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things [is] death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 6:29 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
2Pet 1:5 (KJV) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Matt 21:19 (KJV) And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
Matt 21:43 (KJV) Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
Luke 8:15 (KJV) But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep [it], and bring forth fruit with patience. Luke 21:19 (KJV) In your patience possess [win] ye your souls.
Luke 6:44 (KJV) For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
Luke 3:8 (KJV) Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
We have so very much to Learn of God. And there is much He would PROVE through us. He has Chosen us to Choose Him; that we might Be LIKE Him in all that we Do, Say, Think and Will. Christ is in the Son-ship Business - this Is His Fruition!
Hebr 2:10 (KJV) For it became him, for whom [are] all things, and by whom [are] all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Jame 1:18 (KJV) Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
As we are "given Power to become the Son's ["Children"] of God as we receive/believe-on/trust Him" [Jn 1:12], so we must then RIPEN/MATURE to "become" as SOWN/PLANTED by God if we are to BEAR-FRUIT as Intended and thus Please our Heavenly Father in-Christ! As Above, so Below! As Christ Became Ripe-Manna, so must we too Bear Fruit-in-Season by Ripening with Living Seed within even as we are Offered-up, as Christ ["Meat/Food/Bread in due-Season"],... "Ephratah Bethlehem"!
