Matt 7:13 (KJV) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {strait: or, narrow} 14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. {Because: or, How}

"THE POLISHED SHAFT"

Isai 49:2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

In Hebrews the Word of God is described as "sharper than a two-edged sword" and it is true that the Words of Jesus pierce the hearts of men as no other Words, and we need to use that Sword more frequently and definitely. Here is something, however, that is of greater power than a sword, "A Polished Shaft" --- keener than a sword, smooth, polished, fashioned to sink deeper than a sword! There is no tickling of the ear in His message, bur sweet, strong, piercing, penetrating Words of Life. Listen to them: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting Life; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see Life; but the wrath of God abideth on him!"

Help us, Lord, to honor Thy Word and faithfully use it, for Thy glory. Amen.
