Matt 7:13 (KJV) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {strait: or, narrow} 14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. {Because: or, How}
Hebr 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of [them], and embraced [them], and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims> ["exiles"-RSV] on the earth. {in faith: Gr. according to faith} 1Pet 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers ["aliens"-RSV] and pilgrims ["exiles"-RSV], abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Truly, the Lord is "Our Lawgiver" for He is the Author of all Law. He made the first Law: "In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die," --- a simple, definite Law. When Adam and Eve violated that Law, they suffered the penalty, "dying, they began to die." God never changed that "Law of sin and death," but He made a new Law, "the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus" (Ro 8:2) which makes us "free from the Law of sin and death," so that we who were born sinners --- hopeless, helpless --- receiving Christ as Saviour are, through that new Law, freed from sin and death and made eternal children of God.
Thou blessed "Lawgiver" we thank Thee for that wonderful new Law, and for our Salvation through obedience to it. Amen.
