Matt 7:13 (KJV) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {strait: or, narrow} 14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. {Because: or, How}

"THE SHADOW OF A GREAT ROCK"

Isai 32:2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. {great: Heb. heavy}

Our Lord Jesus is not only a "Hiding Place from the Wind", but "The Shadow of a Great Rock" in a weary land. We have here a picture of the East --- the sun shining and its hot rays wearying the travellor, looking and longing for a place of shade and rest. There are pleasures in the sunlight, but also perils. This world is a weary land. We are here and we must face conditions as they are, not as we might wish them to be. What comfort it is to know that in the midst of all the sorrow and suffering, the trials and disappointments, we can find peace and security in the secret of His Presence.

Give us the Wisdom, dear Lord, to hide ourselves under Thy Sahodow from the burden and heat of the day. Amen.
