Hebr 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of [them], and embraced [them], and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims> ["exiles"-RSV] on the earth. {in faith: Gr. according to faith} 1Pet 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers ["aliens"-RSV] and pilgrims ["exiles"-RSV], abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
How significant is the second title of our Lord, and how significant is the incident which introduces it! In answer to God's Command, Abraham had taken Isaac to Mount Moriah there to offer him as a sacrifice. But the "Angel of Jehovah" (the Son of God) appeared with the life-saving message, "Lay not thine hand upon the lad," -- and this is the very Mount upon which afterwards He Himself was Crucified as our Sin-offering!
Oh, Thou Angel of Jehovah, how we rejoice in Thy message to Abraham which we love to apply to ourselves, "In blessing, I will bless thee." Amen.
