Josh 5:14 And he said, Nay; but [as] captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? {captain: or, prince}
Here is a real picture of a real manifestation of our Lord in human form with a drawn sword in His hand. These wonderful pictures are designed to give us a real conception of Christ. The "Angel of Jehovah" appeared many times. He appeared to Moses as a flame of fire. He appears here armed and ready for conflict. Does this not suggest to us how He stands now in relation to His saints? Is He not -WITH- us in the defense of His Own Word and Work? Can we not depend upon Him?
Help us this day, O Thou "Captain of the Host", to stand firm for Thy Truth, remembering that Thou dost carry a sword and that Thou hast never yet lost a battle! Amen
