No one fears an imaginary God! An adequate definition of a "fool" [as God Defines one] might be a creature who denies it's Creator; or, one who does not Fear God! WHY should we Fear God?: If for no other reason, because Jesus Christ TELLS us to [Lk 12:5], even as He Did [Heb 5:7]!
Everyone who talks, writes, or in any other way makes gestures for another's benefit, expresses thoughts, emotions and intentions by means of these "symbols" or "signs". When these "indicators" take the form of language, we call them "words". And, should we ask where language came from, we shouldn't be surprised to learn... it, like all else, came from God!
Perversion is changing -[by a foreign will]- the meaning of an author. That which originated with one, now expresses another's choice! Thus we can clearly see this is larceny, deceit and murder of the 1st magnitude! But unusual? No... man does this daily to God!
Jesus Christ did not Manifest so men could STUDY Him [or His Living-Word, for that matter!]. Nor would God have us merely examine & theorize about His Fear. He Expects nothing less than to Encounter, Experience & KNOW us in-Christ, Jesus! Anything less is "God-Fraud"!
I'm not sure it is possible to understand what God Means by the "Fear of the Lord" apart from a clear Knowledge of His Holiness! It is His Nature in Who's Likeness we are made as Icons, afterall... Intended as tiny Mirrors of His Glory! Our Godly Fear ["God-Likeness"] somehow acknowledges His Godli-Ness; His Power Reflected, if "stepped-down", as it were. It could truly be said that the man who does not Fear God... OUGHT TO!
And just how is it, then, that this Fear produces LOVE in us?
Oftentimes, God Speaks of His Living Fear much as He does His Living Faith, as here; Jere 32:40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
See how He Indicates that it will be His Fear that will keep or guard us from "departing from Him"?
The man who doesn't Fear God simply hasn't MET Him yet [and doesn't know Him]!
To clearly understand the intended meaning of any originator's statements, we have but to examine his USAGE. Providing we have ample evidence of those expressions, we should be able to decifer his precise meaning. It is to this end the following is devoted.

Eccl 8:12 Though a sinner <2398> (8802) do <6213> (8802) evil <7451> an hundred times <3967>, and his [days] be prolonged <748> (8688), yet surely I know <3045> (8802) that it shall be well <2896> with them that fear <3373> God <430>, which fear <3372> (8799) before <6440> him: 13 But it shall not be well <2896> with the wicked <7563>, neither shall he prolong <748> (8686) [his] days <3117>, [which are] as a shadow <6738>; because he feareth <3373> not before <6440> God <430>. Eccl 9:2 All [things come] alike to all: [there is] one <259> event <4745> to the righteous <6662>, and to the wicked <7563>; to the good <2896> and to the clean <2889>, and to the unclean <2931>; to him that sacrificeth <2076> (8802), and to him that <834> sacrificeth <2076> (8802) not: as [is] the good <2896>, so [is] the sinner <2398> (8802); [and] he that sweareth <7650> (8737), as [he] that feareth <3373> an oath <7621>. Isai 50:10 Who [is] among you that feareth <3373> the LORD <3068>, that obeyeth <8085> (8802) the voice <6963> of his servant <5650>, that walketh <1980> (8804) [in] darkness <2825>, and hath no light <5051>? let him trust <982> (8799) in the name <8034> of the LORD <3068>, and stay <8172> (8735) upon his God <430>. Jere 26:19 Did Hezekiah <2396> king <4428> of Judah <3063> and all Judah <3063> put him at all <4191> (8687) to death <4191> (8689)? did he not fear <3373> the LORD <3068>, and besought <2470> (8762) the LORD <3068> <6440>, and the LORD <3068> repented <5162> (8735) him of the evil <7451> which he had pronounced <1696> (8765) against them? Thus <587> might we procure <6213> (8802) great <1419> evil <7451> against our souls <5315>. Jere 42:11 Be not afraid <3372> (8799) of <6440> the king <4428> of Babylon <894>, of whom <6440> ye are afraid <3373>; be not afraid <3372> (8799) of him, saith <5002> (8803) the LORD <3068>: for I [am] with you to save <3467> (8687) you, and to deliver <5337> (8687) you from his hand <3027>. Jere 42:16 Then it shall come to pass, [that] the sword <2719>, which ye feared <3373>, shall overtake <5381> (8686) you there in the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, and the famine <7458>, whereof ye were afraid <1672> (8802), shall follow close <1692> (8799) after <310> you there in Egypt <4714>; and there ye shall die <4191> (8799). Dani 1:10 And the prince <8269> of the eunuchs <5631> said <559> (8799) unto Daniel <1840>, I fear <3373> my lord <113> the king <4428>, who hath appointed <4487> (8765) your meat <3978> and your drink <4960>: for why should he see <7200> (8799) your faces <6440> worse liking <2196> (8802) than the children <3206> which [are] of your sort <1524>? then shall ye make [me] endanger <2325> (8765) my head <7218> to the king <4428>. Jona 1:9 And he said <559> (8799) unto them, I [am] an Hebrew <5680>; and I fear <3373> the LORD <3068>, the God <430> of heaven <8064>, which hath made <6213> (8804) the sea <3220> and the dry <3004> [land]. Mala 3:16 Then they that feared <3373> the LORD <3068> spake often <1696> (8738) one <376> to another <7453>: and the LORD <3068> hearkened <7181> (8686), and heard <8085> (8799) [it], and a book <5612> of remembrance <2146> was written <3789> (8735) before <6440> him for them that feared <3373> the LORD <3068>, and that thought <2803> (8802) upon his name <8034>. Mala 4:2 But unto you that fear <3373> my name <8034> shall the Sun <8121> of righteousness <6666> arise <2224> (8804) with healing <4832> in his wings <3671>; and ye shall go forth <3318> (8804), and grow up <6335> (8804) as calves <5695> of the stall <4770>.
