God didn't choose me as His "chooser" so that I could not choose Him as my choice! That's not the meaning of "free will".
There is an heresy which goes something like this, "I can do whatever I choose - after all, it's my choice, isn't it? I do have "free will", don't I?". The answer is no, not like that, you don't!
"Rebellion" seems to think it can "get away with it" by simply claiming, "Well, after all, it's my nature to rebel". But it simply doesn't work that way. God didn't make things like that.
Darkness cannot say to the light, "Go away, you bother me; I deny you!" God gets real upset with this kind of "handling" of His Creation. He didn't give Adam Dominion (as if we really have any good, foggy-notion of what that is) just to have Adam "spit in His face" and attempt to pervert the gift against God by "turning everything upside down", as God says.
As with all gifts from God, Dominion ("free-will"?) was intended (by God) to be used in service for God - not against Him! If we use any of God's gifts in any way other than as preferred by God's WIll (Purpose/Intent/Design), WE SI.! There! That seems simple & straight forward enough. Yes, I think we've just about cleared up the whole mess! Won't God be pleased.
But somehow I suspect there will still be those who actually believe that God's Grace is licence, His Love permissive, and that His Forgiveness excuses. We are excused from nothing! On the contrary, we (above ALL) have been called unto and made accountable to a Law far higher than the Law of Moses. The Law of Love is SuperNatural, and simply impossible for the flesh. Only the "New Creature In Christ" (those Forgiven) can apply (become "overcomers").
While it may have been "about" Adam's choice then, the ONLY choice that matters now is the one Christ made (in Obedience to the Father) in the Garden and on His Cross!
When I choose Christ, His choice is substituted for mine (who would believe mine? - I sure wouldn't!).
Everybody knows what choice Adam (the "father" of my "flesh") made. No, Jesus Christ made my choice for me that day on the Cross - THANK GOD!
Now I have no choice - but to do His Love. How? By the same "impossible", "superNatural" power that gave birth to this Faith Living inside me; The Power of His Blood, Resurrection and Life.
The Holy Spirit holds me accountable (by His Power-in-me) to Live, Walk, Love and Obey in the Spirit even as Christ died to make me accountable unto God.
Paul said, "For me to live =>IS Christ!".
The next time someone talks to you about "free will" (as though God gave them the right to not choose Him), tell him you have no choice - you already gave it away! Your choice is made! God help us choose His Way for us; - NO EXCUSES!
