Before we begin to examine God's Written, Living Word (His Will for man), let's take a moment to consider His MEANS of Revelation - LANGUAGE. God uses WORDS. Here is webster's definition of the meaning of the word, "WORD":
We can clearly see how words are the very heart of language, and that language is God's Chosen means of both Revelation AND Creation itself! As Jesus Christ IS The Living Word, we begin to detect our Creator's divine emphasis on the Communication of His Will.
But which language? And was it not God Himself Who "confused the tongues (languages)" at Babel ("the gate of God")- hence the name "Baby-lon" ("confusion at the gate of God!")? Enter translations, or "versions". But is God's Bible, His Written Word, as pure or potent or true in one language as compared with an another?
We are very fortunate in the English language. The study aids and tools written in English now available to even the casual Bible student are nothing short of awsome! The literary and scholarly essays and charts and diagrams and other such useful devices make it both easy and pleasurable to immerse one's self in God's Thoughts. But of all such advantages, it is the sheer volume of good translations and versions (not to mention paraphrases, etc) which edify the most. Here the more attentive scholar may examine even the finest shades of possible meanings - even with little or no actual knowledge of the original language; the work has been done FOR him by others. And there can be no more valuable protection against another's bias when one translation can be laid sid-by-side with those of numerous other versions of the same Text. This enables the layman reader to study God's Word for himself.
Please be advised that I do not think it either proper or prudent to study the Bible ALONE! That is, without the conscious, deliberate Presence and participation of the Author Himself! It is only WITH the Author of these Living Revelations (from God to man) we have any hope of such edification and conversion as has been God's Intent from the Begining. Only God Himself opens spiritual eyes and ears, and only the Holy Spirit Himself can lead us unto all Truth.
Having said all of this, let me say further that there is a great need for clarification where the so-called "King James Version" (or, "Authorized Version", or, "The 1611 Version") is concerned. It is with this in mind that I have included the two PREFACES below - and that I ask any who would study along with me as I ramble with the Lord through His Written Word-Will to read them.
I will be using and quoting from many different versions (not one over another) in a continuing attempt to further clarity. I trust the Lord will not only be WITH us as we adventure through His Revelation(s) ... but that He will impart His Wisdom to any who will travel along with us as 'fellow-pilgrims'. But do let us travel as true adventurers - leaving preconceptions, expectations and foregone assumptions behind. Though it may be true that we all come to this 'Truth-Safari' with extraneous 'baggage' (traditions of men, doctrines of denominations, liturgical precepts, and the like) ... we shall soon find them not only not needed, but a handicap! God Speaks quite well for Himself! He knows how to use language (it being His invention, after all), and does so eloquently. And we shall also learn just how He MEANS just what He Says, as well!
Now ... if you're game, let's begin!
Here's an excerpt:
" ... the greatest illusion about the King James Bible is that it is the sole, unique, divine Bible, untouched by human hands. This doctrine, grotesque as it is, is actually held as a matter of course by the vast majority of people. The publication of any preface from the Translators to the Reader would, by its very presence, whatever its contents, do much to remedy this. The superstitious veneration with which some very pious people regard it would be corrected by the reprinting of the Preface."
Here's an excerpt:
"Truly (good Christian Reader) we never thought from the beginning, that we should need to make a new Translation, nor yet to make of a bad one a good one, ... but to make a good one better, or out of many good ones, one principal good one, not justly to be excepted against."
| AN AUDIO NOTE ABOUT SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT | As God's Living, Written Word-Will (Bible) is ALIVE (Spirit), it must be received BY Spirit (in us) - MEAT is for MATURITY (must be CHEWED) - this is what Jesus meant by, "eyes to see and ears to hear". ---- Do YOU have these? |
| Gen 11:9-32 | Are there actual mistakes in the Bible (making it NOT "inerrant")? What do we DO when we find a mistake in the Bible (either an error, or a deliberate alteration)??? And can we still TRUST God's Living, Written Word-Will - even though there are certain mistakes?? More of the lineage leading up to Abram. | |
| Gen 12:1-20 | As we OBEY, God BLESSES. Abram obeys, and God Blesses him. But even Abram (the former idolator) has relapses of unbelief, and has to wrestle with doubts & fear. After all, the "land which God shows him" is in desperate FAMINE when he gets there! Nevertheless he prospers. And in that very prosperity he later faces yet another form of temptation and trouble. Jesus said, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof!" (Mt 6:34) Back to that MOST Blessed of states; POVERTY! (Mt 5:3) | |
| Gen 13:1-18 | What IS the significance of the "120 years" mentioned in Gen 6:3? And did Able have children? And what about Adam - did he have OTHER children than those named in the Text? What difference would it make? Abram & Lot find strife in their midst - and then CHOOSE! Lot's choice proves a disaster in the end, while God Chooses FOR Abram! (And there are AGAIN "giants in the land!") | |
| Gen 14:1-24 | A whole study could be made on just this one Character, Melchizedek! He blesses (Strengthens) Abram who then SHUNS the king of Sodom and all the battle-booty. | |
| Abram is about to be CONVERTED (radically changed within, from without - that is, from GOD!). A very mysterious Blood-Bond ritual is about to take place, and in it this man Abram and God will, together, "FATHER" a whole NEW kind of REAL-ationship - LIVING FAITH! This Faith will "Know of a SURETY!" regarding the Will of God. |
